Siemens EDA:
Data Centre BMS Upgrade & BMS Maintenance

Siemens Electronic Design Automation (EDA), formerly known as Mentor Graphics, has been operating in Shannon, Co. Clare for more than 20 years. In 2018, Sirus completed an upgrade of the Building Management System (BMS), and since then, Sirus engineers have been responsible for maintaining the BMS at this global data centre.

The Solution

The existing Allerton controllers were upgraded to PXC100-ED Siemens Controllers with a Desigo CC frontend. The system controls HVAC with high-temperature tolerances.

The upgrade project involved the complete replacement of live MCC boards, as well as a retrofit of an existing board. The entire job was carried out in a live environment and had to be completed within a tight timeframe. Despite these challenges, all live work was completed within 10 working days.

The Result

This data centre upgrade project was conducted in a live environment, within a client-defined timeframe and in compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management standards with no interruptions to the running plant.

Sirus has been responsible for maintaining the Building Management System on site since this upgrade project was completed. They make sure to keep the system optimised for best performance and update all hardware and software as needed. Sirus engineers have upgraded the main server from Desigo CC V3 to V6 and updated the one-click client package. They have also completed small projects, such as installing Mitsubishi BACnet integration for monitoring the EDC Comms Room Data Suite. Additionally, they carried out Modbus and BACnet integration of Lennox and Trane Packaged Air Handling Units for Office Data Suite. Sirus BMS Engineers also integrated and controlled the new Engie Air-cooled Chiller with Modbus Integration for Monitoring the Chiller and Data Hall Doors.

Sirus’ experience in data centre environments demonstrates our ability to seamlessly work with clients in live facilities ensuring there is no downtime throughout the project.
