Edwards Lifesciences:
BMS Design, Install & Commission

A global leader in structural heart technology headquartered in Irvine, California, with manufacturing facilities around the globe, Edwards Lifesciences required production capacity in Ireland to manufacture critical components for its innovative heart valve technologies.

In 2019, Sirus was engaged to supply, install and test the Building Management System (BMS) associated with their new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ireland’s National Technology Park just outside Limerick. The 17,700 m2 facility includes cleanroom production suites, laboratory spaces, administration areas, a staff restaurant and welfare facilities.

The Solution

The new Building Management System consisted of a non-qualified BMS (nQBMS) serving ISO Class 7 and Class 8 Production Cleanrooms.

Sirus supplied a ‘Siemens Desigo CC’ building management system connected to 15 no. AHU DPU control panels and 3 no. Utilities DPU control panels.

All of which combined, housed a total of 18 no. Siemens PX range DDC controllers.

  • 18 no. PXC100-E.D IO Controllers
  • 24 no. Communications integrations controllers
  • 2,560 I/O (2,100 Physical, 460 Virtual)

The Result

This BMS project was successfully completed by Sirus in 2021.

Edwards Lifesciences new Limerick plant subsequently became the first medical device manufacturing building in Ireland to be LEED certified to the Gold level under LEEDv4.

This fantastic facility also won the 2022 Irish Construction Excellence Award in the “Industrial Over €15m” category, as well as a 2022 Irish Building & Design Award for Industrial Building Project of the Year.

The Sirus team are proud to have been involved in this successful green building project.
