Case Study
Bausch + Lomb:
Energy Monitoring System for Manufacturing Plant
Bausch + Lomb is an American-Canadian eye health products company. It is one of the world’s largest suppliers of contact lenses, lens care products, pharmaceuticals, intraocular lenses, and other eye surgery products. Established in 1980, Bausch + Lomb’s Waterford contact lens and pharmaceutical manufacturing plant is now a multi-functional complex covering approximately 65,000 m2.
Bausch + Lomb is one of Sirus’ earliest customers with our relationship dating back to the early 1990’s. Since then, Sirus has completed many successful BMS projects. In 2022, Sirus was contracted to develop an Energy Monitoring System (EMS) solution after Bausch + Lomb’s previous EMS provider ceased operations in Ireland.
The Solution
To address the customer’s needs, Sirus deployed SAUTER Vision Center (SVC) in SAUTER Cloud to process and visualise meter information from the existing data loggers.
This web-based EMS solution incorporates the following:
- 350 physical meters & 75 virtual meters record Electricity, Water, Energy, Steam, Nitrogen, Effluent & Compressed Air.
- Data is processed by the SVC EMS and can be displayed as hourly, daily, weekly, monthly & yearly totals or as required.
- All meters were set up with a chart as part of the project, the usability of SVC allows the end user to adjust as required and create their own charts and dashboards.
- A wide variety of chart styles such as bar, line, pie, sankey within SVC allows data to be displayed and compared in various ways.
- The Energy Dashboard provides an overview of the site’s main meters and KPIs are displayed in charts and widgets.
- Degree Days are calculated from weather data for comparison against energy usage.
- Reports are automatically generated monthly and emailed out to the client.
- The option exists to generate email alerts if consumption exceeds predetermined levels.
The Result
Sirus rolled out this cost-effective, robust and scalable Energy Monitoring System solution that greatly helped the client maintain its ISO50001 standard with no downtime and no impact on the metering requirements. Sirus is proud to have successfully delivered this project to the highest standards.
