Mater Private Hospital Cork:
BMS Design, Commissioning & Maintenance
The Mater Private Cork is a 140,000 square foot state of the art medical facility and probably the most technologically advanced hospital ever developed in Ireland. The facility includes 73 single, in-patient bedrooms, including 3 isolation bedrooms, a same-day surgery centre with 20 outpatient beds and four main ultra-clean operating theatres. The hospital also houses an intensive care unit, radiology facilities with MRI / CT / X-ray scanners, a cardiology and neuroscience facility and a laboratory specialised in clinical biochemistry, immunology, haematology, microbiology and blood transfusion.
In 2010, Sirus was tasked with designing, installing and commissioning the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) of this medical facility. The services provided included BMS design and installation, MCC installation, field instruments installation and AHU commissioning.
- 17 MCC Panels, all connected together via the Medical Centre network, reporting back to Desigo Insight (Siemens graphical control/display/trends).
- 4 high-tech Operating Theatres, including 2 Ultra Clean Operating Theatres.
- 14 AHU’s feeding General Areas, Consultancy Suites, Wards, Endoscopy, Intensive Care Unit, Kitchen, etc. (The BEMS calculates the optimum supply temperature based upon outside and inside conditions, in order to prevent inefficient operation of the AHUs).
- 2 chillers and 2 boilers, rotating in a weekly principle.
Sirus Test & Balancing team was responsible for the balancing of the air and water systems of the totality of the air diffusers and water circuits throughout the building.
Sirus was also in charge of the balancing of the Operating Theatres, including the setting of room differential pressures and HEPA filters testing.
Sirus succeeded in this project and continue to carry out the annual validation of the operating theatres and critical care areas. This success of this project was down to the collaboration between the two teams optimising the tasks and assuring at the same time the best operating conditions possible for the building BMS and HVAC systems, namely test & balancing, operating theatre validation and building automation.
